Endémico Magazine
Editorial Infographics
Endemico is a Chilean magazine that highlights the creativity and diversity of environmental movements around the world. I was invited to participate in their 4th printed volume, illustrating two infographics for an article by the academic researcher and UCC professor Belén Piña. In her piece, professor Piña explains the origin and relevance of the soil. In an approachable tone, she explains the long and intricate process of soil formation and the current elements that comprise it.
The first illustration is an infographic about soil’s broad functionality, from it's prominent role as a plant support system to how it holds and preserves cultural and historical artifacts. I had the opportunity to present in a full-page layout, where I designed a cross-section isometric view. Thanks to tri-dimensionality, I was able to represent the different soil functions that the author wanted to demonstrate.
The second infographic – a timeline – shows how soil is formed, thanks to the relationship between rocks and plants. From left to right, the soil slowly grows, getting deeper and higher. It then starts to disappear due the presence of human practices like agriculture and urbanism. I used a cross-section to illustrate the timeline and worked with the magazine’s designers to make a cross-page layout so the timeline could be long enough to show all the elements.
