Habitar
Two illustrated maps for Tomas Gárate’s book: "Habitar, Diversidad Biocultural en la cordillera Norpatagónica de Chile y Argentina".

For more than 10 years, Tomas Gárate has been researching the rural environment and biocultural diversity in the mountains in the South of Chile.

Tomas is an architect, photographer, environmentalist committed to the Patagonian local communities' bio conservation and sustainable development. His book is a collection of essays, pictures, sketches, and botanic samples.

The first map that I made for the book depicts research made by the the World Wide Fund for Nature. It shows the relationship between the indigenous and traditional people and terrestrial ecoregions around the globe.

The second one is a parallel between the original tribes in Africa and the dramatic division only after 20 years of the European colonization.

The color palette is designed to follow the book parameters where the color green is determinant. It also allows the possibility to generate color overlays to juxtapose information effectively.
